As you may recall, within less than 14 days, (about 10 days of working in earnest) the Lawndale Alliance, with a heavy assist from local community stakeholders, collected nearly 1,200 signatures on a petition to put an advisory referendum on the November ballot asking 24th Ward voters if the City of Chicago should have an elected school board. A number of other organizations were collecting signatures all over the city as well. The Coalition to Organize Democracy in Education (CODE) collected nearly 9,800 signatures from over 200 precincts in 26 wards around the City. The Chicago Community Coalition for an Elected School Board (CCC4ESB) collected over 4,000 signatures citywide.
